the perfect solution for
a luxurious night’s sleep
Why are people choosing Alpaca Fleece Bedding?
In an ever-changing world and with climate change at the forefront of many people’s minds, sustainable living is more desired now than it has ever been. From food and diets to purchased products, consumers seem to be more conscious of what they’re buying and eating, and the effect it has on the environment. Many are turning away from ‘fast-consumerism’ in favour of higher quality, more ethical and longer lasting items.
A recent report by Ethical Consumer also showed that the pandemic has had an effect on the way consumers are buying with organic sales increasing to 19% from March to May 2020, prior to the pandemic organic sales sat at around 8%. And it doesn’t stop there, there was also a 20% increase in people wanting to shop more locally compared to buying from big chains.
Whilst this mindset is long overdue, it’s great news for businesses like ours. At South House Alpacas, our vision is simple – make all bedding a completely sustainable product that protects the earth. We want to make 100% natural and organic bedding that will last a lifetime and we’re proud to say that we do just that.
ALPACA FLEECE – ‘FIBRE OF THE GODS’
We all know Alpacas to be gentle, friendly animals with huge personalities. They make loveable companions and are often the star of the newly popular trend of trekking with Alpacas. But what many don’t know is that Alpacas are primarily bred for their beautiful soft fleece, also known as ‘fibre of the gods’. Legend has it that the gods gifted ancient people Alpacas as a reward for how well they lived, and they have been bred for their fleece ever since. The luxurious touch and softness of the fleece is just scratching at the surface to the many benefits of Alpaca fleece.
Unlike many man-made alternatives, alpaca fleece is both sustainable and eco-friendly. Alpacas are sheared every year for their fleece and unlike ducks and geese, they are not killed for their fibre. Not only that, but Alpaca fleece is one of the most ethical products available and is completely eco-friendly throughout the entirety its production.
This means that during the manufacture, no chemicals or dyes are used and the animals themselves are given the best care and nutrition, so as to provide them with long-term health and to help them to maintain a glossy, healthy fleece. Alpacas are not killed for their fur or meat and the animals are not at all harmed during shearing. Great care is taken so as not to distress the animal or damage the fibres. If you’ve ever visited South House Alpacas, you’d know how happy all of our Alpacas are with many visitors commenting on how well looked after they are!
What we do at South House Alpacas:
At South House, we use our Alpaca’s fleece to produce organic duvets and pillows made to the highest organic standards. All of our bedding is produced without harmful chemicals, promoting a healthier environment and encouraging biodiversity. The cotton we use is natural and both renewable and biodegradable. And, through our environmentally responsible methods of production, you can be assured that our wool bedding products are produced to a globally recognised standard. It is our cotton outer that is used to define organic status, and all fabric used in our wool bedding is purchased with a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) Certificate.
The perfect solution to a good night’s sleep
If you value a good night’s sleep, and let’s be honest – who doesn’t? then alpaca bedding is the answer to all your prayers! South House alpaca bedding is not only super cosy and made using 100% pure alpaca fleece, but it is produced and made locally in the UK. Our bedding is filled with sustainable fibres and encased in natural cotton covers to provide a luxurious and comfortable night’s sleep.
Alpaca bedding doesn’t just give you a comfortable night’s sleep by being super soft and luxurious to touch, but it also works with your body temperature to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer, just like it does on the alpaca! Because Alpaca fleece is known for its thermoregulatory properties and being highly breathable, it makes the perfect bedding choice for any season – resulting in no more sleepless nights whatever the weather!
Ok, so we know it’s soft, thermoregulatory and is ethically made but at the end of the day it’s still wool. Wool has a reputation of being itchy and irritating on the skin. So, alpaca wool doesn’t seem like the obvious choice for bedding, does it? Well, unlike many other wool-bearing animals, Alpaca wool doesn’t contain Lanolin. Lanolin is a natural grease found on most wool-bearing animals and is responsible for many allergies to wool. As Alpaca fleece doesn’t contain this, you can sleep easy knowing that South House Alpaca bedding is naturally hypo allergenic. And in terms of being itchy, Alpaca fibres are as fine (if not finer) as Cashmere making irritation from Alpaca fleece pretty rare, which is why many people are relying on the comfort of Alpaca bedding to sleep well.
Try Alpaca bedding for yourself
So, there you have it, not only are Alpacas amazing and loveable animals but we are able to use their fleece to produce organic, eco-friendly, sustainable, thermo-regulatory, hypo allergenic, super comfortable and luxurious bedding – I could go on! We’ve proven that the benefits of Alpaca fleece bedding are endless and we’re proud to have a variety of different types and sizes available for you to check out.
